Lewis Bed and Breakfast Accommodation
Eilean Leòdhais, meaning 'Leod's Island', is the Gaelic name for the island known to us in English as the Isle of Lewis. The Isle of Lewis is proudly Gaelic and it has, for some time now, been the policy of the local Council to produce road signs and directions in the Gaelic language. Luckily for non Gaelic speakers (or readers) the signs usually have an English translation underneath but gradually, over the years, place names are becoming more widely known in the Gaelic form. This is most evident when talking about the standing stones at Calanais (main site above and site 3 shown to the left) which were, for a long time, known as Callanish Standing Stones. While this may seem confusing the most important thing to remember is that the vast majority of Lewis have English as their first or second language so conversing with your host at your chosen Lewis bed and breakfast will be no problem..

The Thorlee Guest House (shown left) offers Lewis bed and breakfast accommodation right in the very centre of the town of Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis. You will find the Thorlee an excellent place to stay if you are visiting the island on business or pleasure. The ferry terminal and local bus station is within a minute or twos walking distance and Stornoway airport is only about five minutes away by car, taxi or bus. of course being at the very heart of Stornoway the Thorlee is within minutes of nearly all of the local amenities and tourist attractions which range from the lively pubs and bars to the much more laid back atmosphere enjoyed while walking in the Lews Castle grounds.
